Murder Suspect Shanked by Inmate Inside Tuscaloosa County Jail
A Tuscaloosa man who was charged with murder after a deadly shooting in 2019 was stabbed by another inmate in the Tuscaloosa County Jail last week.
According to court documents filed Friday, the inmate was stabbed by Jose Daniel Bravo, a 60-year-old man charged with sodomizing a child in 2019.
Investigators said Bravo and the 44-year-old victim share a "pod" inside the jail and last Wednesday, Bravo pulled out a makeshift knife and stabbed the other man as he walked past him.
The victim was stabbed in the back and was also cut on his chest and stomach when he turned around. The deposition called his injuries superficial puncture wounds.
Bravo, already facing a long list of criminal charges including first- and second-degree sodomy, domestic violence and possession of a controlled substance, has now been charged with one count of second-degree assault for the stabbing, which is a Class C felony in Alabama.
Both men remained jailed Monday afternoon.
Editor's note: The policy of the Tuscaloosa Thread is to refrain from identifying victims of assault and despite the unusual circumstances of this case, we have decided to stick to that policy for this story.
