A person has been shot in Tuscaloosa on Monday afternoon in the area of the University of Alabama Arboretum, a nature preserve celebrating the area's flora and fauna.
Captain Marty Sellers, the co-commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, confirmed to the Thread that an investigation is underway involving their unit, which handles all assault and homicide cases in the county.

In an update, Captain Jack Kennedy, the other commander of the VCU, described the victim's injuries as life-threatening.

The Arboretum is between Alberta and Cottondale in east Tuscaloosa near the Tuscaloosa VA and the McAbee Center.
About two hours after the shooting, the University issued a statement saying that preliminary investigation suggests no one affiliated with the school was involved.
"Around 1 p.m. today, law enforcement and first responders were called on reports of a shooting to an area on the grounds surrounding the UA Arboretum, located in East Tuscaloosa, approximately six miles from the main UA campus," a UA spokesperson said. "The incident did not involve anyone from the University, and there was no threat to the campus community. The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit is leading the investigation."
