A 26-year-old truck driver from Mississippi was killed Thursday morning in a single-vehicle accident in Sumter County, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency State Troopers have confirmed.

Reginal King, a spokesperson for the Troopers in West Alabama, said Cortez Steen was driving a 1999 Freightliner tractor-trailer on Alabama Highway 17 outside of Emelle Thursday morning when the rig overturned.

King said Steen was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from his truck cabin in the accident. The 26-year-old from Grenada, Mississippi was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

King said the wreck took place on Alabama 17 about five miles north of Emelle in Sumter County.

No further details were available Thursday afternoon, and King said ALEA's Highway Patrol Division will continue to investigate the deadly accident.
