Averitt Ends Long-running Contract With Mercedes-Benz Plant
For the first time in 30 years the Mercedes-Benz plant in Vance will be in need of a new trucking and logistics contractor after the first of the year. Averitt has announced conclusion of its contract with the Mercedes-Benz plant in Vance on December 31st after failing to agree on new terms for their dedicated services. The contract's end will impact some 200 employees with jobs ranging from drivers to administrative support and leadership according to a press release from the company.

The end of the contract with Mercedes will not impact Averitt's operation in Tuscaloosa according to the press release. “Averitt will continue to provide a full range of transportation and logistics services in Tuscaloosa as we have for nearly 50 years now. In fact, our vision is to grow our business in West Alabama as we provide local shippers with creative and innovative solutions,” an unnamed company spokesperson wrote.
Mercedes declined to comment about the contract termination, stating the company policy is to not publicly comment about contracts with their business partners.
“As the dedicated contract comes to a close, Averitt is actively working to ensure a smooth transition for affected associates. The company is focused on identifying new opportunities within its network to retain as many team members as possible. Averitt is also offering financial transition assistance to associates who transfer to positions within its network,” the written statement from Averitt said.
Among Averitt's current key large-scale corporate customers are Cracker Barrel, Southwest Canners, Georgia Power, Krispy Kreme, Nissan, Federal Mogul and Hill's Pet Food among others.
