Publix, which has five Tuscaloosa/Northport locations has voluntarily recalled one of their favorite products.  Publix Rich & Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream bearing the UPC 41415 03043 and a “sell by” date of June 19, 2026. It could contain a serious allergy risk. So far, according to the Publix press statement, no illnesses have been reported.

What makes this more concerning is that some containers with the above code may actually contain French vanilla ice cream under a mismatched lid, which means the label doesn’t match what’s inside.

The recall is limited to certain states: Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, Tennessee and Florida. The product has already been removed from coolers but customers who may have already purchased the product should check the UPC Code and "sell by" date.

If you bought one of the recalled ice cream tubs and you or someone in your household has an allergy or sensitivity to eggs, the company advises you definitely should not consume it. Instead, return it to your local Publix store for a full refund and they'll dispose of it. You can also reach their customer care line at 1-800-242-1227 or check their website for more information on next steps.

“As part of our commitment to food safety, potentially impacted product has been removed from all store shelves,” said Publix Director of Communications Maria Brous.

Publix calls this action voluntary, which is common when a manufacturer detects a potential hazard before it causes harm. A well-managed voluntary recall signals that a company is being proactive rather than reactive.
