City of Tuscaloosa Updates Progress of McWright’s Ferry Road Extension Project
The McWright's Ferry Road Extension Project is underway which upon completion is expected to cut commute time for citizens and guests and provide additional access for first responders.
In a release on the City of Tuscaloosa's website, the construction officially began last month and is expected to be completed in late 2025 or early 2026.
The release said the extension will connect Rice Mine Road to New Watermelon Road by bridging North River and connecting to McWright’s Ferry Road.
The project, which is funded through the Tuscaloosa County Road Improvement Commission, will also include a pedestrian bridge over North River and a shared-use path which will connect to the Northern Riverwalk.
The release said the City of Tuscaloosa and TCRIC is planning to host an official groundbreaking ceremony in honor of the project, which is scheduled to take place in June.
