Manhunt Underway After Hatchet Attack on McFarland Boulevard
A man was seriously injured on Tuscaloosa's McFarland Boulevard Friday afternoon after he was attacked with a hatchet or tomahawk, according to a police spokeswoman.
Stephanie Taylor, the public information officer for the Tuscaloosa Police Department, said officers were called to the 3100 block of McFarland Boulevard near Haverty's Furniture just before 5 p.m.
A woman there said she and the victim, a 31-year-old man, were traveling north on McFarland when another man jumped out of a nearby car and attacked her companion with a hatchet or tomahawk.
The victim was struck in the head and is being treated for injuries that Taylor called serious but said they do not appear to be life-threatening.
Taylor said the suspect and the victim have been involved in an ongoing dispute. Officers are aware of the alleged assailant's identity but were still working to locate him at 9 p.m. Friday.
