Thousands of Alabama residents are without power as a severe thunderstorm moves through the Yellowhammer State Wednesday evening.

Before the worst of the weather moved through our readership area, Alabama Power was already reporting more than 25,000 outages statewide, although the vast majority of those were being reported in Jefferson County, where more than 12,000 customers were experiencing outages around 7:30 p.m.

In West Alabama, the most outages so far are being reported in Tuscaloosa County, where 1,800 customers were without power.

In nearby Lamar County, more than 900 were without power.

2,100 more were experiencing outages in Walker County.
