Man Struck, Killed by Train in Tuscaloosa Tuesday Afternoon
Police are investigating after a man was struck and killed by a train in Tuscaloosa Tuesday afternoon.
Stephanie Taylor, a spokesperson for the Tuscaloosa Police Department, said officers were called to the intersection of Veterans Memorial Parkway and 39th Avenue East shortly after 3:30 p.m. at the request of employees at Norfolk Southern Railroad.
Taylor said one of their trains had struck someone walking alongside the tracks Tuesday afternoon, and officers found the victim, a man in his 50s, dead at the scene of the incident.
TPD has turned the case over to the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, a multi-agency group that investigates all deaths outside of a hospital setting that occur in the county. Their involvement is standard procedure and not necessarily indicative of a suspicion of foul play.
