Police in Tuscaloosa County have arrested a man they believe is responsible for a Sunday afternoon shooting in Cottondale that left a 26-year-old seriously injured.

Captain Jack Kennedy, the commander of the multi-agency Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's deputies and Tuscaloosa Police officers were called to Cottondale Efficiency Apartments around 2 p.m. Sunday.

A 26-year-old man had been shot one time, and Kennedy said the victim was hospitalized with serious injuries.

The VCU investigated the shooting and developed 41-year-old Wiley Lee Sanders as their primary suspect, but Sanders could not be found Sunday.

Police obtained a warrant for attempted murder and were able to serve it Monday morning - Sanders was taken into custody and placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail, where his bond has not yet been set.

Kennedy said police believe the shooting stemmed from "an ongoing argument."
