Police have arrested the man allegedly responsible for a predawn shooting that killed a young man in west Tuscaloosa Saturday morning.

Captain Jack Kennedy, the commander of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said officers were called to the 2200 Block of Herman Avenue near Fosters Ferry Road in west Tuscaloosa at 1:30 a.m. on reports of a shooting.

They found two people shot - a 45-year-old with non-life-threatening injuries and a 28-year-old man who was dead on the scene. Kennedy said that the victim was Jordan Davis.

After investigating, the VCU reports that the shooting occurred during a fight at a private residence during a party there.

After police interviewed witnesses and collected evidence, 28-year-old Weslie Darnell Tinker was charged with one count of murder and booked in the Tuscaloosa County Jail where he is being held without bond.

His booking photo was not publicly available Saturday night, but will be added to this report after it is uploaded by the jail.

The murder is the fourth homicide the VCU has investigated in Tuscaloosa so far in 2025.
