Newsweek has named Tuscaloosa's Bryant Bank the best small bank in the state of  Alabama, the magazine announced Tuesday.

A Wednesday press release highlighting the award said Bryant Bank was selected out of more than 2,500 FDIC-insured institutions, who were all judged on 55 different factors. After examining the bank's fees, current and historical interest rates, mobile app satisfaction, customer service and more, Newsweek selected Bryant Bank as the best small bank in the Yellowhammer State.

"Like virtually every other aspect of our lives - work, school, shopping, entertainment, you name it - the pandemic is changing the way Americans bank," said Diane Harris, Deputy Editor in Chief for Newsweek. "And those changes, in turn, are creating a new set of challenges and opportunities when it comes to picking the financial institution that best suits our banking needs."

Bryant Bank was founded in 2005 by Paul W. Bryant, Jr., who said its mission was to provide Alabamians with the ability to secure a financially stable future and the chance to live in a thriving community. The Tuscaloosa institution now employs more than 260 bankers in 16 branches across the state.

In a statement, Bryant said this recognition from a national publication was a testament to his staff's hard work and dedication to the community in a time when both are needed more than ever.

"I am incredibly proud of the job that Bryant Bankers do, day-in and day-out, to provide unbeatable service and legendary care for our customers and our Alabama communities," Bryant said. "It is our banker’s dedication to putting care into action to help Alabamians invest in their full potential that resulted in achieving this outstanding recognition."
