M.E. "Mac" Hackney, II (June 1st, 1938

M.E. (Mac) Hackney, II, age 85 of Tuscaloosa, passed away December 2, 2023, at Hospice of West Alabama.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church - Chapel. The family will hold a visitation at the church from 10:00 ~ 11:00 am.

He is preceded in death by his parents; M.E. Hackney, Sr. and Helen Martin Hackney, and his brother; Glen Martin Hackney.

Survivors include his wife; Sandra Wilson Hackney, sons; M.E. Hackney III, John Wilson Hackney (Sarah), and James Patrick Hackney, sisters; Helen Jean Brock, and Rosemary Hackney Cook-Davis, grandchildren; Marin Wilson Hackney, Milla James Hackney and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Born in Harriman, Tennessee on June 1, 1938, Mac moved with his family to Albertville, Alabama at the age of 13 where he graduated from Albertville High School in 1956.

Mac was a born salesman and spent his entire career as a sales rep. traveling much of the Southeast. He will be best remembered for his sense of humor and his remembering family and friends with Birthday and Christmas cards.

He was a faithful member of the Agape Sunday School Class at First Baptist in Tuscaloosa, where he often arrived early to make the coffee and greet classmates as they arrived.

He was a lifelong Alabama fan and on Gamedays he could be found at Bryant-Denny Stadium cheering on the Tide.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama or First Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa.
