
Congressman Aderholt Nominates Local Students to Service Academies
Three Tuscaloosa County youth have received highly coveted congressional appointments to U.S. Service Academies from West Alabama Republican Congressman Robert Aderholt. (4th District).
The U.S. Military Academy (USMA), the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA), and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) all require a congressional nomination in order to qualify for an appointment to attend.

Among Rep. Aderholt's local appointments are:
- Anglin Young, son of Brett and Laura Young of Tuscaloosa. The Northridge High student received appointments to both the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York and the U.S. Air Force Academy near Colorado Springs, Colorado. He has already received acceptance from both.
- Ferrin Thorne, daughter of Derek and Valerie Thorne of Northport. The Tuscaloosa County High School student received her appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy located in Annapolis, Maryland.
- Elenor Little, daughters of Justin and Ashley Little of Northport. The homeschool student received her appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland.
Also receiving appointments were Kate Seidel from Vinemont and Cooper Scott of Albertville, each to West Point and Ayden Gargis of Killen to Annapolis.
"Each of these young leaders has shown remarkable academic achievement, leadership and commitment to service," Aderholt was quoted as saying in the press release announcing the appointments. "I'm proud to nominate them for admission to our nation's service academies and wish them continued success as they pursue lives of honor and duty."
To be eligible to enter an Academy, an applicant must be:
- A citizen of the United States
- Must be a legal resident of Alabama.
- Must meet the medical, physical, and academic requirements of their respective academy.
- Must have an open application with at least one of the U.S. service academies.
- Be of good moral character
- Unmarried with no dependents
- At least 17, but less than 23 years of age by July 1 of the year you would enter.
