Juvenile Arrested for Friday Night Shooting That Killed Another Teen

One young life ended and another will be forever changed after a Friday night shooting in Tuscaloosa left a juvenile dead, a car crashed into a nearby home and another teenager in jail.

Captain Jack Kennedy, the commander of the multi-agency Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, said officers were called to the scene of a shooting and related car crash in the 2200 block of Reece Boulevard in Tuscaloosa.

Kennedy said a vehicle crashed into a residence there and a juvenile inside the car was found dead on the scene suffering from gunshot wounds.

A second victim was also shot and is in critical condition at DCH Regional Medical Center.

Kennedy said the VCU, TPD and the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office worked together to process a crime scene he called "extensive."

Kennedy said the shooting and crash were the result of an attempted robbery - the driver was shot and crashed into the residence.

Kennedy said police have identified and arrested a juvenile, who is facing charges of felony murder and first-degree robbery.

"The investigation is on-going and more charges are possible," Kennedy said.

Because both the victim and the suspect are juveniles, Kennedy did not publicly release the identity of either, citing an Alabama law that prohibits police from sharing information about minors.

The killing is the eighth the VCU has investigated in Tuscaloosa County so far this year, and the third in under a week.

UPDATE: The second victim of the shooting has now also died.
