Police investigators near Tuscaloosa are on the scene of a Thursday morning shooting in a residential area off Highway 69 South.

Captain Jack Kennedy, the commander of the multi-agency Violent Crimes Unit, told members of the media shortly before noon that the VCU has been called to the scene of a shooting on Maxwell Circle.

He did not say how many people were injured or to what extent they were hurt.

UPDATE: On the scene, Kennedy told the Thread one adult was struck by gunfire and transported to DCH Regional Medical Center. No additional details on their condition were immediately available.

UPDATE, 4:30 P.M.: In a follow-up email to area media outlets, Kennedy said the victim in this case was an adult male who suffered "serious injuries" in the shooting. Kennedy said "there is no reason at this time to believe that there is any danger to the surrounding area."
