
John Frederick Thomas (October 22nd, 1933 – January 27th, 2025)
John Frederick Thomas, 91, of Greensboro, Alabama went to be with the Lord on January 27, 2025, at Moundville Health and Rehab surrounded by his family.
Services will be held at Greensboro Baptist Church on Monday, February 3 at 11:00 a.m. with Bro. Dee McGuire and Bro. Steve Vernon presiding and Magnolia Chapel South directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Frederick is preceded in death by his parents Robert Gaither and Laura Nichols Thomas and brothers, George Everett Thomas, Robert Douglas Thomas, and William Ellis Thomas.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Betty Sue Thomas of Greensboro; son, John (Dana) Thomas of Moundville, daughters, Donna (Drayton) Robinson of Moundville, and Vicky (Keith) Payne of Akron; six grandchildren, Tara (Richard) Scott, Kayla Robinson, Todd (Brooke) Payne, Chad (Lesley) Payne, Seth (Brittany) Thomas, and Tanner (Destiny) Thomas; 12 great-grandchildren, Taelor Brooke Devore, Elli Kate Payne, Hank Payne, Levi Thomas, Sawyer Thomas, Parker Scott, Grayson Scott, Sadie Drew Payne, Anna Claire Payne, Noah Thomas, Cooper Thomas, and Dakota Thomas; one sister, Alice T. Johnson of Greensboro, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert (Bob) and Louise Wolfe of Milton, Florida. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Frederick was an active deacon and faithful member of Greensboro Baptist Church until declining health moved him to Moundville Health and Rehab six and a half years ago. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served from 1954 to 1956, 13 months of that as a Morse code operator in Japan. He also served some time with the Army Reserve.
He worked as a Parts Manager for Thomas Tractor in Greensboro for 30 years. He was also a very handy carpenter, using his skills to help each of his children build their homes.
Pallbearers will be Todd Payne, Chad Payne, Seth Thomas, Tanner Thomas, Richard Scott, Bob Thomas, Bill Thomas, Allan Thomas, Terry Johnson, and Dennis Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lamar Hall, Lennon Thomas, Tommy Langham, Otto Steele, Members of Greensboro Baptist Church, Members of Moundville Baptist Church, Moundville Health and Rehab Staff/Employees, and SouthernCare Hospice.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Greensboro Baptist Church Building Fund, Music Ministry, or Missions Ministry (908 Main Street, Greensboro, AL 36744).
