Jo Ruth Riley Friday, age 88, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama passed away June 2, 2023, in Tuscaloosa.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2023, from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. at Magnolia Chapel North. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 9, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Magnolia Chapel North with Pastor Larry Colburn officiating. Burial will be at a future date in Mesopotamia Cemetery in Eutaw, Alabama.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Auston Riley and Bernice Hensley Riley; husband, John Hugh Friday; son, Donnie Friday; sisters, Jewel Banks Riley Martin, Marie Riley Wilson, and Anita Riley Tucker; and brother, Gene Riley.

Survivors include her daughter, Lynne Friday of Ralph, Ala.; son, John Paul Friday (fiancée, Renita Allen) of Northport, Ala.; sister-in-law, Brenda Friday Randolph of Northport, Ala.; brothers-in-law, A.C. Tucker of Brentwood, Tenn. and Lee Scott Jr. of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; grandchildren, Jonathan Mark Friday (Heather) of Northport, Ala. and Waverly Brook Friday, of Austin, Texas; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Jo Ruth Riley Friday was born March 28, 1935. She graduated from Dora High School in 1953 and moved to Washington, D.C. to work at the Pentagon. She returned to Walker County in 1955. In spite of a disastrous blind date, she married Hugh Friday in 1956 and moved to Tuscaloosa. They celebrated 64 happy years together travelling and building a business. Jo finally retired as credit manager of Friday Lumber at age 80.

Honorary pallbearers are Nell and Johnny Brown, Kristy Bailey, Elaine and Ed Cole, Iris and Winston Crocker, Teresa Rice Dockery, Grady Friday, Cade and Cole Glasgow, Virginia and Sam Parks, Bob Way, the current and previous employees of Friday Lumber.
