One of Alabama Football’s most electrifying players in recent memory is off the board early in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Wide receiver Jaylen Waddle has been selected No. 6 overall by the Miami Dolphins. He is the second wide receiver off the board, Ja'Marr Chase was drafted No. 5 to the Cincinnati Bengals

Despite not putting up the most impressive career stats like Smith or his former teammates Jerry Jeudy and Henry Ruggs, the 5-10”, 182 pound wideout is highly regarded for his breakaway speed and acrobatic catching abilities. Many NFL personnel have drawn comparisons between Waddle’s capabilities and star Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

Due to an injury sustained during Alabama’s game against Tennessee last season, Waddle only recorded stats in five of Alabama’s 13 games on the way to winning the College Football Playoff. In the first four games he played however, Waddle accumulated 557 yards and four touchdowns in total.

Over the course of his career at Alabama, the Houston, Texas native totaled 109 receptions for 1,999 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also contributed on special teams as a dangerous kickoff and punt returner, totaling two touchdowns and hundreds of return yards over his three years. Out of high school, Waddle was a four star recruit on Alabama’s 2018 recruiting class.

Waddle will provide fellow Alabama alum Tua Tagovailoa an electric target to throw the ball to. He will line up in the slot and on the opposite side of former first round draft pick DeVante Parker.

Waddle is one of many former Alabama players hoping to hear their name called during the NFL draft this weekend. The list of draft eligible Alabama prospects includes Smith, Mac Jones, Najee Harris, Patrick Surtain II, Christian Barmore, Alex Leatherwood, Landon Dickerson, Deonte Brown, Miller Forristall, Carl Tucker, Dylan Moses, and Thomas Fletcher.
