If you plan on attending the Freedom Day Back-to-School Bash Wednesday, here's the biggest advice organizers have for you: get there early.

The free community event will take place Wednesday, July 15, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Tuscaloosa River Market, with backpacks filled with school supplies available while supplies last.

Last year's event gave away 400 backpacks and drew an estimated 750 people. Organizers expect an even larger crowd this year as the annual event continues to grow.

In fact, the Freedom Day Bash has gotten so big that organizers say this will be the final year at the Tuscaloosa River Market. The event is expected to move to a larger location next year after outgrowing its current home.

Along with free school supplies, families can connect with community resources, participate in giveaways and enjoy activities throughout the day. Big Dawg DreDay will also be on the turntables providing the soundtrack for the event.

Again, families are strongly encouraged to arrive early. Backpacks and school supplies will only be available while supplies last, and based on last year's turnout, they could go quickly.

Organizers are also still accepting donations of bottled water to help keep families, volunteers and vendors hydrated.
