Diamonds for Doulas Hosts Impactful Baby Shower Event
A weekend celebration in West Alabama turned into something much bigger than just a baby shower. It became a powerful example of what happens when a community shows up for its families.
Diamonds for Doulas hosted its 5th Annual Community Baby Shower, “Slice Slice Baby,” on Saturday, May 2, bringing together resources, education, and support for dozens of expecting families.
According to the organization, 46 families were directly assisted through the event.

“Saturday May 2nd 2026 was nothing short of incredible,” said founder Crystina Hughes. “Being able to serve 46 families with tangible resources, education, and trusted community connections shows the power of what happens when advocacy meets action.”
Families walked away with essentials that make a real difference. Car seats, diapers, wipes, and gift cards were distributed, along with access to free breast pumps and safe sleep education. Participants also had the opportunity to register for Pack and Plays delivered directly to their homes.
But the impact went beyond the giveaways. Organizations from across the region showed up to connect families with long term support, including healthcare providers, maternal health advocates, and parenting programs.
“This event represents exactly what our organization works towards every day which is to remove barriers and make sure families feel supported, seen, and prepared,” Hughes said.
The event also builds on a strong legacy. Last year’s community baby shower earned an ABBY Award for the station, highlighting the continued impact of partnerships between Diamonds for Doulas, 105.1 the Block, and multiple sponsors including Moments Captured Photo Booth and RDE Photography, Reaching Our Sisters Everywhere (ROSE), Once and Again for Kids, Yellowhammer Fund, and more.
In a time when maternal health remains a critical issue, events like this continue to prove one thing. When community meets purpose, lives change.
