Mark your calendar for an unforgettable evening as the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra concludes its 2025–2026 season with RISE on Monday, April 27, at 7 p.m. in Moody Concert Hall, offering audiences a night of powerful music, reflection, and renewal.

On a date that holds deep meaning for the Tuscaloosa community, RISE marks the 15th anniversary of the April 27, 2011, tornadoes that changed the city forever, serving as a season finale shaped by themes of struggle, remembrance, resilience, and hope.

According to the press release, “The program includes Verdi’s stirring Overture to Nabucco, a special collaborative performance of A Time for Jubilee honoring the 60th anniversary of the Selma March, and Tchaikovsky’s sweeping and triumphant Symphony No. 5.”

Bringing together remarkable talent from across the state, the evening will feature a standout collaboration between TSO and the choirs of Stillman College, Tuskegee University, and Alabama State University, alongside internationally acclaimed soprano Laquita Mitchell, in a performance of A Time for Jubilee. The powerful new work pays tribute to the legacy of the Selma March, weaving a moving reflection on history, courage, and collective hope.

“There could not be a more fitting title for this finale than RISE,” said Natassia Perrine, Executive Director of the Tuscaloosa Symphony Orchestra. “This concert is about courage, memory, resilience, and hope. It honors Alabama’s history, brings extraordinary artists together from across the state, and falls on a day that holds deep meaning for Tuscaloosa. We hope it will be a powerful opportunity for our community to come together, remember, and be lifted by music.”

Before taking the mainstage, Mitchell will also delight audiences with a special mini performance during TSO’s pre-concert celebration, Cheers & Chat, offering a rare chance to experience an artist of her caliber in a more intimate setting ahead of the concert.
