Early July Heat Index Values Continue for West Alabama
Many Alabamians have enjoyed the holiday with family and friends while taking in summertime activities like cookouts, swimming, boating, and more.
As the temperatures climb in early July, the heat index is reaching alarming levels, raising serious concerns about heat-related illnesses. Please remember that hot temperatures and high humidity can pose significant risks not only to you but also to children, the elderly, and pets.

Stay safe and take preventative measures to beat the heat.
The National Weather Service in Birmingham has extended the “Heat Advisory” until Friday, July 5 at 9 p.m.

You Can Expect Heat Index Values Up to 107
NWS PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible, reschedule strenuous activities for early morning or evening.
Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heatstroke.
Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible, and drink plenty of water.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments to reduce risk during outdoor work.
Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.
