It's a senseless and preventable tragedy in most folks' opinions. A community prayer service is planned for Saturday at Snow Hinton Park in Tuscaloosa. Tuscaloosa mayor Walt Maddox spoke with us almost immediately after the tragic event at DCH and expressed anger, grief, and a desire to change the mental health situation in our state.

The CEO at DCH, Katrina Keefer, has been one of the best hires in the hospital's history. She has done an incredible job of turning so many things around, and I know she is devastated by the loss of one of her staff members. Many of us are upset, and Katrina Keefer told us she will be opening up "listening sessions" to hear what employees and the community have to say.

We held our own kind of "listening session" with the public on the radio and online earlier today. You can listen to that segment below.

One thing we heard from several people involved the issue of nurses and the rules regarding carrying mace or other self-defense devices.

We had several people tell us they work at DCH, and they confirmed that information. That is something I would definitely look at changing if I were management at DCH.
