Alabama Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan met with the media Monday and discussed some things that went wrong on the offensive side of the ball during the Tide's 40-35 disappointing loss to unranked Vanderbilt.

Sheridan also discussed some of the things the Tide's offense is working on in practice this week to improve their offensive performance from last week, which saw Jalen Milroe throw a pick-six on the Tide's first drive and then the Tide fumble after Milroe lost the ball in the fourth quarter after being blindsided by a Commodore defender.

Sheridan shared that he thought that his offense didn't "execute" enough and that "if you don't win then you didn't do well enough," saying that this message is for the players and that he knows that his offensive unit is upset and disappointed by Saturday's game, despite the offense recording over 400 yards in the Tide's loss against Vanderbilt. Sheridan claims that the offense did not accomplish its "job" on Saturday, which was to score "one more point" than the other side.

The Tide's offensive coordinator admitted that while Alabama's offense had success moving the ball, his team failed to execute, which was "very costly" to the Tide. Sheridan also stated that he did not believe his offense "flipped the field" when Alabama's offense began possession on their side of the field, allowing the Commodores to have a short field on offense.

Nick Sheridan told the media that the Tide offense needs to work on "maintaining execution throughout the course of a game," which appeared to be a problem in the second half of Alabama's 41-34 victory over the Georgia Bulldogs on September 28th, when the offense stalled after an explosive first quarter.

When asked how his leaders are coming back after the loss, Sheridan stated, "Early impressions were that they were outstanding" The offensive coordinator went on to say that their responses "reveal the character of who they are, which is excellent." Sheridan concluded his response by expressing that he wants his players to "learn from the mistakes and errors and move forward excited about competing Saturday".

During his press conference, Sheridan was asked what could be done to get the runningbacks more consistent touches. The Tide's offensive coordinator said that the game Saturday was "unique" because the Tide "put themselves in a hole early" and had to play "catch up," which limited opportunities for the Tide to run the ball.

When asked about the Tide's running back room, Nick Sheridan had nothing but positive things to say, adding that both runningbacks (Jam Miller and Justice Haynes) have been "effective" throughout their five games this season, saying that these guys are not only helpful when they have the ball, but they are also excellent blockers on "perimeter runs" and in the pocket picking up blitzes.

Sheridan concluded the press conference by returning to a question about why the time of possession was so lopsided, with Vanderbilt's offense on the field for 42 minutes and Alabama's offense only for 17 minutes. Sheridan noted that this was due to the "four drives" in which Alabama's offense failed to "execute".

The Alabama Crimson Tide will stay in Tuscaloosa to face the (2-2) South Carolina Gamecocks at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday, October 12th.
