Alabama men's basketball assistant coach Charlie Henry has been connected to Georgia Southern's vacant head coaching position and is expected to be announced as its new head coach Tuesday, per Stadium's Jeff Goodman.

Henry has been with Alabama head coach Nate Oats for a long time. The pair's working relationship dates all the way back to Romulus High School in the Detroit metropolitan area where he and Oats coached together from 2009-2010. Henry has also been an assistant for the Chicago Bulls and was the head coach of the Bulls' G-League affiliate when Oats took the Alabama job and hired him again.

Henry has been largely credited with developing Alabama's hard-nosed style of defense. This season, suffocating defense has been a massive part of the Tide's success. Even when the high-flying offense's shots aren't falling, the defensive efforts of the Crimson Tide have helped the team pull out major wins.

Henry has gotten super-star players like Brandon Miller fully bought in on defense, which is very rare. He also coached Herb Jones, who many analysts think will win an NBA Defensive Player of the Year award in his career.

Henry may not be the only assistant Oats loses this year. Bryan Hodgson, who has been with Oats since he got his first head coaching job at Buffalo in 2015, has been linked to the Buffalo head coaching vacancy. The move would make even more sense when one considers that Hodgson is from Olean, N.Y., just an hour and a half from Buffalo.
