Thursday, Feb. 6, 2024 The University of Alabama's Physical Properties Committee met in Birmingham and voted to approve changes to the existing designs for the Crimson Tide's new basketball facility, which is currently being built next to Coleman Coliseum. The entire board of trustees is expected to meet Friday to "officially approve" the new modifications, according to Al.com's Nick Kelly.

This Facility was first approved by the University of Alabama's Board of Trustees in June 2024, with the first two stages confirming that Alabama's new Basketball facility will include new locker rooms, weight rooms, training rooms, and coaches offices, as well as renovations to the men's current practice facility for the women's team.

According to Kelly, the women's team will take over the facilities currently used by the Alabama men's basketball team after construction on the new facility is completed.

As reported by Kelly, the University System Board of Trustees voted in November to accept Stage IV, which included approval of the construction contract for the new basketball facility.

Kelly stated that the committee authorized the following improvements on Thursday: "a courtyard for the men's players, and a separate courtyard on the other side of the building for the women's players." Kelly stated that this will be used as a "gathering area for players as well as for recruiting purposes."

This will cost around $500,000, which will be funded by the Crimson Standard capital project. According to Kelly, the new facilities were originally priced at $58.67 million; however, with the current improvements, the total price of Alabama's new basketball facility is now $59.18 million.

Alabama's new basketball facility is projected to be completed by 2026, with Kelly stating that it will be "about 48,883 gross square feet." The new gym will be connected to the men's present practice facility and will be used for "men's basketball training and development."

With the turmoil and instability in the NIL world, this move is significant for Alabama's basketball program's future. A $60 million facility is a terrific approach to entice recruits, especially given the achievements that Crimson Tide men's basketball head coach Nate Oats has earned throughout his tenure with the Tide. This will also help the players' development, making Alabama more successful and attractive as a place to play basketball.
