Alabama Wide Receiver Germie Bernard Highlights Alabama’s Depth at Wide Receiver
Alabama has a plethora of weapons at wide receiver, and sometimes, that means one guy is overshadowed for a game. That was the case in the Iron Bowl, when sophomore wide receiver Ryan Williams saw no targets against Auburn. Ryan Williams, statistically, is Alabama's second-leading receiver this season, with 40 receptions for 598 yards and four touchdowns.

The leader at receiver for the Crimson Tide this season has been senior wide receiver Germie Bernard, with 51 receptions for 700 yards and six touchdowns. In the Iron Bowl, Bernard had just three receptions for 24 yards, as the Tide's star in that game was Isaiah Horton, with five receptions for 35 yards and three touchdowns. Adding in true freshman Lotzeir Brooks, redshirt freshman Rico Scott, and Alabama's plethora of tight ends and running backs, Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson has a lot of options to distribute the ball to.
"This is a team game, and we know as a receiver, there’s only one ball, but we have to play for our guys," Bernard said on Tuesday. "We were in a meeting yesterday, and it’s gonna be guys that go crazy one game, and then it’s gonna be another guy.
"You just have to be excited for your teammates, cheer them on when their time is coming. You just have to know your time is gonna come whenever that does come. You can never be envious or jealous of another guy that’s doing well because at the end of the day, like, that’s my brother. I want to see him succeed.”
Ryan Williams led Alabama in receiving yards last season with 865 and eight touchdowns, and many came into 2025 expecting a breakout year for the young star. Williams' season hasn't quite lived up to his expectations after dealing with injuries during the year (notably a concussion in week one against Florida State), but he will have opportunities in big games coming up for the Crimson Tide, starting this Saturday in the SEC Championship.
"He has a great mindset," Bernard said, talking about Ryan Williams. "He knows how important he is to this team, how valuable he is. We just gotta be able to put him in positions to win, and we will. We will. He’s not tripping. He’s the same guy.”
Alabama will face Georgia in the SEC Championship on Saturday, December 6, at 4:00 p.m. ET. Our coverage of the SEC Championship is brought to you by Pearl River Resort and the Sportsbook at Golden Moon Casino.
