Alabama offensive analyst Alex Mortensen was named the new offensive coordinator of the UAB Blazers on Friday. Mortensen was shortly added to the staff after Trent Dilfer was named head coach earlier in the week.

Mortensen started his coaching career at New Mexico Highlands as the quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator. Mortensen then went to the St. Louis Rams as a coaching assistant.

Mortensen served as a graduate assistant at Alabama from 2014-18. Mortensen spent one year with the Birmingham Iron as the wide receivers coach before returning to Tuscaloosa to become an offensive analyst from 2019-22.

As a player, Mortensen saw stints at Arkansas and Samford. Mortensen was signed by the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent in 2009.

Alex is the son of ESPN award-winning journalist Chris Mortensen.
