TCSO deputies arrived around 1 a.m. and found a dead man at an abandoned residence in that area, Kennedy said, and the VCU has determined that foul play was likely a factor in the death, which is still under active investigation.

"TCSO and VCU has spent most of the day processing the scene and searching the surrounding area," Kennedy said. "Residents in the area that witnessed any suspicious vehicles or persons in the area of Old Fayette Road after midnight last night are encouraged to contact the VCU. Residents with video surveillance are asked to check their cameras for any suspicious activity."

The VCU is also trying to locate a person of interest in this case, Erik Bradley Thomas.

"Thomas is a black male, 5’10” tall, 240 lbs, 37 years of age," Kennedy said. "Thomas resides in the area, but he has not been located. If anyone knows his whereabouts, please contact the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office at (205) 752-0616 or the VCU at (205) 464-8690."
