The officer involved in the assault looked down in order to grip Shacklett's cuffs, but when he looked up, he heard the inmate make a gurgling sound. She proceeded to intentionally spit in his right eye.

The officer wiped her spit from his eye and they were both transported to DCH Regional Medical Center. The officer was treated and released, while Shacklett received a medical evaluation. It was there she told an officer she was positive for Hepatitis C.

Shacklett was charged with a felony assault with a bodily fluid and was placed in the county jail on a $10,000 bond.
