Inmate at Tuscaloosa County Jail Charged with Spitting in Officer’s Eye, While Positive for Hepatitis C
An inmate at the Tuscaloosa County Jail has been charged after she spit in the eye of an officer, later admitting that she was positive for Hepatitis C.
Danielle Shacklett, 32, of Greensboro was initially arrested on Sept. 23 on a domestic violence charge. She was transported to the Tuscaloosa County Jail, where she soon became combative and began to try and fight the officers.
The officer involved in the assault looked down in order to grip Shacklett's cuffs, but when he looked up, he heard the inmate make a gurgling sound. She proceeded to intentionally spit in his right eye.
The officer wiped her spit from his eye and they were both transported to DCH Regional Medical Center. The officer was treated and released, while Shacklett received a medical evaluation. It was there she told an officer she was positive for Hepatitis C.
Shacklett was charged with a felony assault with a bodily fluid and was placed in the county jail on a $10,000 bond.
