All northbound lanes of I-20/59 were blocked and closed down in Greene County Saturday morning after a multi-vehicle accident, according to Alabama Law Enforcement Agency State Troopers.

Trooper Reginal King, an ALEA spokesperson, said the accident occurred around 7 a.m. Saturday on the interstate near mile marker 56 in Greene County.

King said all Northbould lanes of I-59 are completely blocked and will be shutdown for "an undetermined amount of time."

ALEA is working with staff from the Alabama Department of Transportation to reroute traffic. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and use alternate routes if at all possible.
