The National Weather Service in Birmingham has extended existing flood warnings for five West Alabama counties that include a significant waterway.

This warning affects the Tombigbee River at the Bevill, Gainseville and Demopolis Lock and Dam sites. Expiration dates vary for each site.

The text of the warning is as follows:

...The Flood Warning is extended for the following rivers in 
Alabama... 
Tombigbee River At Demopolis Lock and Dam affecting Greene, 
Marengo, Sumter and Hale Counties. 
 
...The Flood Warning continues for the following rivers in Alabama... 
Tombigbee River At Bevill Lock and Dam affecting Greene, Pickens 
and Sumter Counties. 
Tombigbee River At Gainesville Lock and Dam affecting Greene, 
Sumter and Marengo Counties. 
 
.Flooding is forecast to impact portions of the Tombigbee River due 
to ongoing heavy rainfall from Ida. 
Another statement will be issued by Tuesday morning, or sooner if 
conditions warrant.
...The Flood Warning is now in effect until further notice... 
The Flood Warning continues for 
the Tombigbee River At Demopolis Lock and Dam. 
 
* From Thursday afternoon until further notice. 
 
* At 8:15 PM CDT Monday the stage was 36.9 feet. 
 
* Flood stage is 68.0 feet. 
 
* Minor flooding is forecast. 
 
* Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage 
Thursday afternoon and continue rising to a crest of 69.5 feet 
Friday evening.
...The Flood Warning is now in effect until early Friday morning... 
The Flood Warning continues for 
the Tombigbee River At Gainesville Lock and Dam. 
 
* From Thursday morning to early Friday morning. 
 
* At 8:45 PM CDT Monday the stage was 77.5 feet. 
 
* Flood stage is 101.0 feet. 
 
* Minor flooding is forecast. 
 
* Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage 
Thursday morning to a crest of 101.0 feet Thursday morning. It 
will then fall below flood stage early Thursday afternoon.
...The Flood Warning is now in effect until Friday evening... 
The Flood Warning continues for 
the Tombigbee River At Bevill Lock and Dam. 
 
* From Tuesday afternoon to Friday evening. 
 
* At 7:00 PM CDT Monday the stage was 110.4 feet. 
 
* Flood stage is 122.0 feet. 
 
* Minor flooding is forecast. 
 
* Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage early 
tomorrow afternoon to a crest of 125.2 feet Wednesday evening. It 
will then fall below flood stage Friday morning.

The weather service urges residents in these areas to avoid traveling through standing water and stay weather aware as the effects of Hurricane Ida taper off through the rest of the week.
