The Northport community will say goodbye tomorrow morning to one of its most loyal backers and significant civil leader, Sam Faucett III. A graveside service is set for 10:00am at Williamson Cemetery (2695 5th St, Northport). That will be followed by a memorial service at Christ Episcopal Church (605 Lurleen B Wallace Blvd North, Tuscaloosa) at 11:00am. A reception and visitation will be held immediately following the service at the church according to his obituary.

The much-respected banking icon, philanthropist, and former Northport politician, died at Hospice of West Alabama on Friday, December 26th at the age of 90.

He is survived by his two daughters, Margaret Phillips and Marsha Crow., six grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Along with his lengthy career as a highly successful banker, Faucett served 12 years on the Northport City Council before being elected mayor. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of the DCH Health System for 25 years and a longtime participant on the PARA board.

The Northport native was born in 1935 and educated at Northport Elementary School and Tuscaloosa County High School. He then attended the University of Alabama before earning graduate degrees from the University of Wisconsin and the University of Oklahoma.

Faucett was inducted into the Alabama Business Hall of Fame in 2007 and the Tuscaloosa County Civic Hall of Fame in 2005. He was Tuscaloosa County Citizen of the Year in 2010. In 2021 he named a "Pillar of the Community" by the Community Foundation of West Alabama.
