An indigent Northport man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly attacked a man at Queen City Park on Jack Warner Parkway with a baseball bat.

According to court records filed Friday, the victim was at the Tuscaloosa park when Arthur Blake Kyzar, who is reportedly homeless, asked him to help load some items into the back of a vehicle.

The victim told police Kyzar became irate over the way the other man was handling and loading his belongings into the car, grabbed a baseball bat and began to beat him on the head and body.

Tuscaloosa Police Officers were called to the scene and eventually found Kyzar hiding across the street in a bathroom on the Riverwalk.

He was taken to the Tuscaloosa County Jail, where detention officers noted in their reports that he smelled strongly of alcohol.

Kyzar told police there that as he and the other man were loading items into the car, the second man became angry, grabbed the baseball bat and struck Kyzar in the back with it. He said he ran to the Riverwalk to escape.

Witnesses interviewed on the scene agreed with the victim and said Kyzar escalated the situation and attacked the other man.

He was ultimately charged with second-degree assault, a Class-C felony. He remained in the Tuscaloosa County Jail Saturday afternoon on a bond set at $5,000.
