Captain Jack Kennedy of the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit said that Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's deputies and the VCU were called to a residence on Crescent Ridge Road in Holt on Thursday after a woman had walked to a neighboring residence, requesting help and police.

Kennedy said after an investigation, police believe the suspect, 45-year-old Billy Phillips, had grown angry during an argument with the woman. He allegedly proceeded to assault her with a knife, then forced her to stay in the trunk of a vehicle for an extended period of time.

Phillips was taken into custody and charged with first-degree kidnapping, second-degree and third-degree domestic violence assault and possession of a controlled substance.

He was placed in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on a combined $101,000 bond and remained there Friday afternoon.
