An 18-wheeler has caused a dangerous spill after its fuel tank ruptured at the busiest intersection in the city of Northport.

Townsquare Media Tuscaloosa Traffic Reporter "Captain" Ray Allen said the spill occurred at the intersection of Highway 69 and McFarland Boulevard.

He said the truck carrying the tank had jackknifed and crews were working hard Monday afternoon to clear the scene, but guess it would be at least 4 p.m. until the problem was resolved.

Residents are encouraged to stay clear of the area until the spill is cleaned up.
