Girl Scouts cookie season is finally here, but selling cookies during the COVID-19 pandemic looks a lot different than in previous years.

The Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama partnered with GrubHub this year to make ordering and receiving cookies as safe and easy as possible. With every $15+ order of cookies placed through the GrubHub app, the purchaser will receive one free box of cookies of their choice.

Ordering cookies through GrubHub works the same way as buying cookies at a stand in front of the grocery store. Different Girl Scout troops are stationed in the Tuscaloosa office each day, the troops fulfill the orders placed in the app, then hand the cookies to the GrubHub driver to be delivered.

However, some Girl Scouts took delivering cookies into their own hands and developed a contactless way to personally deliver cookies to their buyers.

“COVID has not stopped us from selling cookies. We have booths every weekend with hand sanitizer, masks and face shields, and our customers are just as respectful and considerate by wearing their masks,” local Girl Scout Laila Gray said. “COVID did not scare away any of our loyal customers – we still have people looking to buy cookies and really appreciate our contactless services.”

Partnering with GrubHub has proven to be good for business, as the Tuscaloosa GrubHub sales average 25 packages a day.

Tuscaloosa residents will be excited to learn the Girl Scouts are hosting a drive-thru cookie booth this Saturday at Veterans Memorial Park in front of University Mall. The event will go on from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is completely contact-free.

“People can pull up and stay in their car in this brand new drive-thru format,” said Allie Hulcher, the communications manager for Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama.

The Girl Scouts in Tuscaloosa worked extremely hard to make sure the community can get their cookie fix. To order cookies through GrubHub, click here or download the GrubHub app.
