George Howard Abel (February 18th, 1933 – April 12th, 2024)

George Howard Abel, age 91, of Northport, Alabama, passed away on April 12, 2024 at his residence.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at Magnolia Chapel North with Bro. Tony Scarbrough and Bro. Scott McQueen officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Magnolia Chapel North directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the Magnolia Chapel North.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Velma Abel; sister, Jean Powell; and brothers, Carl Abel, Lynn Hugh “Buddy” Abel, Jimmy Abel, and Fred Abel.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Violet Abel; daughter, Cynthia Criswell (Jack); sons, Russell Abel (Susan) and Mark Abel (Jane); sisters, Laura Randolph and Martha Jones; grandchildren, Luke Abel (Kalee), Caleb Abel, Zachary Abel (Michelle), Jacob Abel (Anna), Cara Criswell and Schaeffer Criswell; and six great-grandchildren.

He was born and raised in Cordova, Alabama. He moved to Linden, Alabama. He worked as a maintenance mechanic at the Georgia Pacific Naheola Mill and retired to Northport, Alabama.

Pallbearers will be Russell Abel, Mark Abel, Jack Criswell, Zachary Abel, Jacob Abel, and Schaeffer Criswell.

Honorary pallbearers are Lakewood Baptist Church, friends and neighbors, and Southern Care Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Southern Care Hospice, Lakewood Baptist, or Carroll Creek Volunteer Fire Department, or the charity of your choice.
