Halli first came to the University of Alabama in 1972. He was an English professor for almost 30 years, then was tasked with the Honors College in 2002. Just a couple of years later, enrollment was booming at just under 1,700 students.
In a quote to the Tuscaloosa News in 2005, Halli said, "We're bigger than most of the other colleges."
Halli retired from the Honors College in 2009, but he continued to be involved through UA's Harry Truman Scholarship. He also taught courses in the UA in Oxford program during the summer. Additionally, he was a board member at the Kentuck Art Festival.
Halli was a decorated professor and dean, including the Morris Lehman Mayer Award, the Outstanding Commitment to Teaching Award and the Outstanding Commitment to Students Award.
Townsquare Media sends our condolences to the family and friends of Dr. Halli.
There has been no announcement of services at this time.
