NWS Issues Freeze Warning for 35 Alabama Counties Including Tuscaloosa
A touch of winter weather is finally arriving in Alabama this weekend, and the National Weather Service has issued a Saturday morning freeze warning for 35 Alabama counties, including Tuscaloosa.
In an alert issued Friday afternoon, the NWS in Birmingham issued a freeze warning forecasting temperatures as low as 30 degrees across about half of the state.
The warning is in effect from midnight Friday until 8 a.m. Saturday. It affects the following counties: Autauga, Bibb, Blount, Bullock, Calhoun, Chambers,
Cherokee, Chilton, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Dallas, Elmore, Etowah,
Fayette, Greene, Hale, Jefferson, Lamar, Lowndes, Macon, Marengo,
Marion, Montgomery, Perry, Pickens, Randolph, Shelby, St. Clair,
Sumter, Talladega, Tallapoosa, Tuscaloosa, Walker, and Winston
Counties.
Although conditions are expected to only just dip below freezing, the NWS warns that frost and freeze conditions could kill crops or other sensitive vegetation and could damage unprotected plumbing.
The NWS suggested bringing tender plants inside and proactively protecting pipes by wrapping them up and either draining them or allowing them to slowly drip.
