Fayette Man Charged With Attempted Murder After High Speed Chase

Police in a Fayette County town charged a man with attempted murder after he allegedly almost ran over a police officer while fleeing from a traffic stop, according to court records filed Monday.

The suspect, 41-year-old Glen Michail Womack, was pulled over by police officers in Berry, Alabama Friday when he fled the stop at high speed, according to a warrant filed Monday morning.

The court documents say Womack almost ran over a Berry Police officer, who had to jump out of the way of his moving vehicle to avoid being hit.

Police pursued Womack, who led them on a "high speed chase," according to the documents.

When he was finally stopped, officers discovered methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia on his person.

Womack was arrested and placed in the Fayette County Jail. He is charged with two felonies and four misdemeanors -- attempted murder and possession on a controlled substance (methamphetamine), second-degree possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, attempting to elude a police officer and failure to obey a lawful order from police.

He was also ticketed for running six stop signs, exceeding a reasonable or prudent speed, driving on the wrong side of the road, reckless driving, driving with a switched license plate, failure to register his vehicle and operating a vehicle without insurance.

He remained in the Fayette County Jail Monday afternoon. Police in Berry declined to comment on the case. It was not immediately clear if a bond amount for Womack has been set.
