City Leaders Celebrate $2 Million Upgrade to West Tuscaloosa Park
A park in west Tuscaloosa is looking great after a $1.8 million upgrade which culminated in a Tuesday morning ribbon-cutting.
Kaulton Park, located off Martin Luther King near the McDonald Hughes Community Center, has for decades been an important gathering place for the residents of west Tuscaloosa.
Using funds from the Elevate Tuscaloosa sales tax, the city has upgraded the park this year with a new pavilion with restrooms; a new playground and improved landscaping, lighting and security features.

Mayor Walt Maddox joined councilwoman Raevan Howard and Lieutenant Cory Burns of the Tuscaloosa Police Department at the ribbon-cutting Tuesday morning .
“We believe in the Kaulton community and the people who live here" said Maddox. "Words are important, but actions are more important, and the City of Tuscaloosa is keeping our commitment to this community."
"This is not just a park, this is an investment that will allow our community to keep moving in a positive direction," Howard said. "Let's keep moving forward."
"To see this transformation is just astounding," said Lieutenant Cory Burns. "Growing up in this area, I never dreamed that I would see something like this. Today is a reminder of how far we've come and how far we can go."
Other Elevate projects are ongoing and more ribbon-cuttings are soon to follow, including one later this week at Snow Hinton Park, which saw $10 million invested there this year.
