Edward Lee Smith, 90, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, passed away on Thursday, September 30, 2022.

He was born in Birmingham, Alabama to Zelta Shelton Smith and Arby Lee Smith. After graduating from Palmetto High School in Reform, Alabama, Edward attended the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He obtained his master's degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary and was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia and later First Baptist Church Tuscaloosa. He proudly served in the U.S. Army for two years and was an active member of Gideons International.

He is survived by two sons, Kevin (Chantelle) Smith and Karl Smith, as well as four grandchildren, Ryden (Jordan) Smith, Coleman Smith, Brynna Smith, and Lincoln Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Jean Bates Smith, and his parents, Zelta Shelton Smith, and Arby Lee Smith.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 7, 2022, at First Baptist Church of Tuscaloosa, 721 Greensboro Avenue, Tuscaloosa, Alabama 35401. Family will receive friends at 10:00 am with the funeral service to begin at 11:00 am. Graveside burial at Ashcraft Corner Baptist Church Cemetery, 13744 AL Hwy. 159, Kennedy, AL 35574, will immediately follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Gideons International or to First Baptist Church Tuscaloosa Mission Fund.
