Los Tarascos Closing Downtown Tuscaloosa Restaurant, 2 Locations Still Open
A downtown Tuscaloosa restaurant has permanently closed less than a year after opening there, owners announced on Facebook Tuesday.
As the Thread reported in 2023, Don Toño's closed their Temerson Square restaurant after 13 years as one of the district's few unchanging tenants.
The space stood empty for a few months, but not long - another Tuscaloosa Mexican restaurant, Los Tarascos, celebrated 25 years in the market by taking over the lease and opened in May 2024, supplementing their existing locations on Skyland Boulevard and in Northport.
Now, seven months after getting the downtown Los Tarascos opened, it has permanently closed.

Their last night was Saturday, January 18th, and even that was cut short when a celebration there exceeded the restaurant's maximum allowed capacity and Tuscaloosa Police officers shut it down for the night, a department spokesperson confirmed.
"Today, we close the doors of our downtown location with full hearts and so many unforgettable memories. Over the past year, this space has been more than just a restaurant—it’s been a place where friends became family, celebrations were unforgettable, and so many moments were shared over great food and Margaritas," restaurant owners said on Facebook. "From the laughter at the bar to the packed nights filled with music and joy, we are endlessly grateful to everyone who made Los Tarascos Downtown a part of their lives. Your support, love, and loyalty have meant the world to us. Though this chapter is closing, you can still enjoy the Margaritas and dishes you love at our Skyland and Northport locations."
Those are located at 110 Skyland Boulevard East in Tuscaloosa and at 4100 Owen Parkway in Northport.
