A long-awaited gourmet dessert company is finally open in Tuscaloosa, opening their doors almost four years after the first announcement that Crumbl would come to the Druid City.

The cookie specialists are open now in the Shoppes of Legacy Park, taking over the space that used to house a Mac repair shop.

There, Christopher and Vanessa Arias will manage the store and a team of about two dozen employees as they serve up an always rotating lineup of treats. The Arias family operates a handful of other Crumbl locations across Alabama - Christopher's brother introduced them to the brand when he opened a location in Boston a few years ago.

"Crumbl is such an evolving brand that it's almost like you just have to always pay attention - they're always coming out with new flavors, new desserts and even new techniques on things they may have tried before," Christopher Arias said. "This week, one of the items we're featuring is a miniature strawberry cake - we've never done that before."

The Arias family said they'll have a soft opening today, Thursday the 29th, and won't turn any customers away ahead of their grand opening on Friday.

Starting now, they'll be open six days a week - Crumbl is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. On Fridays and Saturdays, they stay open a little later, running from 8:00 a.m. till midnight, and the team will take off on Sundays to rest a prepare for a new menu of desserts the next week. When they reopen on Monday, there will be a fresh lineup of treats to order.

The new store is open now at 1320 McFarland Boulevard East in Suite 260, next to the now-closed Pyro's Pizza.

With no space to dine inside the store, Crumbl will focus on takeout and delivery orders - beginning on June 4th, delivery will be available through the Crumbl app, on DoorDash and through UberEats. Vanessa Arias told the Thread that eventually they'd like to hire first-party delivery drivers.

Arias said anyone interested in work - even those who are 15 or 16 - can call or visit the store, and that the family is also looking for opportunities to donate their still-good treats that don't get sold.

"One of the biggest parts I love about being a part of Crumbl is I go out to the community and look for places we can donate to," she said. "We always donate to our police departments and our fire stations, but I love to find homeless shelters, Boys & Girls Clubs, even orphanages, and bring them cookies every week. I love to look in the community for places we can give back to."

Treat lovers can also get a free chocolate chip cookie beginning Monday, June 2, through Tuesday, July 1, by using the code ALTSCLOOSA in the Crumbl app to place an in-store order.
