A Tuscaloosa man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder almost two months after he allegedly shot another man who was driving in a residential area of Cottondale.

According to court records filed earlier this week, the victim was driving on Cooperstown Circle in Cottondale before dawn on January 16th when someone opened fire on the sedan he was in.

Police said the car was struck five times, and one of the bullets hit the driver in the leg.

The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit began investigating, and witnesses to the shooting reportedly identified 28-year-old Jaiontae Kendrell Long as the gunman.

A warrant was issued for his arrest in January, and court records say he was arrested on Monday, almost two months after the Cottondale shooting. Long was charged with one count of attempted murder and one count of failure to appear on a pre-existing felony drug charge.

Long was no longer listed as an inmate in the Tuscaloosa County Jail on Thursday night, which may indicate he has been released on bond.
