Staff at Tuscaloosa's Central Elementary School is on heightened alert and police are investigating after a suspicious phone call Monday morning.

Lydia Avant, a spokesperson for Tuscaloosa City Schools, told the Thread the steps are being taken out of an abundance of caution and there is no lockdown at the elementary school Monday morning.

"It appears that CES had a concerning phone call this morning made from an out-of-state phone number," Avant said. "Police are investigating, trying to track who made the call, and families were notified. We are following our safety protocols and the school is under a state of "heightened awareness."

The school is located in west Tuscaloosa on Dinah Washington Avenue and serves students from Pre-K through 5th grade.
