Crews working for the state will perform rolling lane closures on US Highway 82 in Coker early next week as part of the ongoing project to replace a pair of bridges there.

As the Thread reported in May, ALDOT is working on a $10 million project to replace the bridges over Big Creek near Sam Sutton Road in Coker.

A major part of that work, the girder placement for the westbound bridge over Big Creek, will take place on Monday and Tuesday.

"Crews plan to place a total of 14 girders, with seven scheduled each day," said John McWilliams, an ALDOT communications coordinator. "Westbound traffic on US-82 will be stopped for a maximum of 15 minutes at a time during each girder placement."

The lane closures will also only be implemented before 8:30 a.m. or after 2:30 p.m. to minimize daytime delays.

ALDOT has a free mobile app and encourages drivers to download it or check out their website for real-time updates and conditions.
