A threatening post made online led to an enhanced law enforcement presence at Brookwood Middle and High Schools Friday, where an investigation thankfully found no credible threat.

Parents of students at the two Tuscaloosa County schools were notified Friday morning that additional law enforcement officers would be on the campus today in response to a threatening comment posted online.

After an investigation Friday morning, TCSS Superintendent Keri Johnson said she was limited in the details she could share because of privacy laws, but said police determined the student allegedly involved does not live in the county and is not connected to the school system.

"This situation has been investigated, and we do not believe there is any active or credible threat to our schools, related to the message posted online," Johnson said in an update. "Upon further investigation, we have discovered the social media post originated from a student in another county, who does not attend the Tuscaloosa County School System and is not connected to our district."

She also gave credit to parents and students who spoke up after seeing the troubling post online, allowing it to be investigated and found to be without merit.

"Alerting law enforcement or a school administrator is so important whenever you think there may be a threat to school or student safety," Johnson wrote. "Thank you to everyone who spoke up in this situation. This is one of the most important actions anyone can take to keep our schools safe."
